Siddhartha Climax Apotheosis and Ultimate Boon

The climax of a novel or another literary work, such as a play, can be defined as the turning point at which the conflict begins to resolve itself for better or worse. The climax of Siddhartha occurs in the chapter entitled â€Å"By the River,† when Siddhartha hears the word Om while standing at the river as he considers drowning himself. This mystical sound heartens him, restoring his will to live. The moment represents a turning point that eventually leads to his achievement of nirvana. One day Siddhartha’s pain becomes too much and Siddhartha sets off in a desperate search of his son, but stops as he hears the river laughing at him. He looks into the river, sees his own father whom he had left, and turns back, concluding that â€Å"everything that was not suffered to the end and finally concluded, recurred, and the same sorrows were undergone†. Returning to his hut, Siddhartha tells Vasuveda all of this, but as he does, Siddhartha notices a remarkable change in the old man. After listening to Siddhartha, Vasuveda leads Siddhartha back to the river, telling him to listen deeply. At first Siddhartha hears only the voices of sorrow, but these voices are soon joined by voices of joy, and at last all the voices are under the great sound of â€Å"Om. Realizing the unity of these voices, Siddhartha's pain fades away and â€Å"his Self had merged into unity†. He has at last found salvation. Recognizing his friend's achievement, Vasuveda departs into the woods to die, thereby joining the unity he had helped Siddhartha find at last. Siddhartha realizes the unity of all things in the world which is the apoth eosis of the novel. The ferryman is a guide for both the river and the path to enlightenment. The ferryman is positioned between ordinary world and enlightenment, and those who seek enlightenment and are open to guidance will find what they need within the ferryman. The ferryman, however, shows Siddhartha how to find enlightenment within himself. The first time Vasudeva meets Siddhartha, Siddhartha wants only to cross the river, and that is all Vasudeva helps him do. Vasudeva is not a teacher who will simply tell Siddhartha what he should know, but a guide who will lead him where he wishes to go. Years later, Siddhartha searches for knowledge from the river itself, and Vasudeva guides him in his attempts to hear what the river has to say. Siddhartha himself becomes a ferryman after he achieved his goal of attaining nirvana.

Cancer is a disease that is killing individuals all around the world. More than one-fifth of all fatalities were triggered by cancer and its been predicted, by the American Cancer Society, that about 33% of Americans will ultimately acquire this disease. Also women are more prevalent in developing breast cancer, as men are more prevalent to developing colon cancer. â€Å"Between 1977 and 2006, the top five biggest disparities in age-adjusted cancer death rates were for the following types of cancer, according to the study; cancer of the lip: 5.51 men died for every one woman, cancer of the larynx: 5.37 men died for every one woman, cancer of the hypo pharynx: 4.47 men died for every one woman, cancer of the esophagus: 4.08 men died for every one woman, and cancer of the bladder: 3.36 men died for every one woman. The first poem ‘Remember’ by Christina Rossetti is a late romantic, early Victorian sonnet, which is about someone who has passed away. ‘The chimney sweeper’ by William Blake, is written in 1740’s and is about a young child chimney sweep and his plight. ‘Remember’ is written in the narrative voice so that it seems as if the person who passed away is speaking. The poem talks about how the deceased person has gone to a calmer, more peaceful place and how you will no longer be able to touch or feel them again. ‘Gone far away†¦ hand.’ The first part of the poem is dark and mournful but because it is a sonnet it allows for a more optimistic and comforting turn after line eight. It tells people that there is a time for grief and a time to move on but that they should not feel any guilt. Christina Rossetti has written the poem so that it flows and sounds rather like a song. The mood of the poem is sombre and she repeats the word ‘remember’ throughout the sonnet. This reminds the reader what the focus of the poem is and gives it structure throughout it. It also emphasises the meaning of the poem. The poem deals with the theme of sorrow in the form of death. However it is not a dark poem and makes death not seem that bad. She uses the sonnet form so that in line 9 there is a shift. This creates a break in the poem. Up to line 9 the poem is about grief and sadness but then it shifts and becomes more philosophical. Christina Rossetti uses euphemistic language such as ‘darkness’ and ‘corruption’ to represent death. This creates depth and makes you think about the poem. She also uses metaphors in her euphemistic language such as ‘silent-land’, which represents Heaven. This poem would be used at funerals because it is written in a way that suggests the deceased person is talking. ‘The chimney sweeper’ is about a young boy who is sold as a chimney sweep. The poem tells of his sad story. William Blake uses narrative voice of a child so that it engages the reader. The rhyming in the poem makes it sound like a child is talking. Blake is trying to show the children as victims by showing how vulnerable and pathetic their cries are. ‘Cry weep, weep, weep’ He uses couplets and verses to
